This storage dam is clay lined and has a capacity of 100,000 cubic metres of water for vineyard irrigation to make that fantastic Marlborough wine.

What makes this dam unique, is that it is carved out of twisting gullies. And being clay lined rather than using a PVC liner, the earth compaction and drainage work is more critical – it has to be absolutely spot on to avoid possible failure. Molly and his team experienced many challenges including a mid-construction shutdown due to COVID-19 and then along came winter! A fantastic effort and a great dam built by this well-led and talented team.
